Join My Book Club

I love to read. I want to read more so I started a virtual book club. Want to join? Here is the book we are reading:

In My Place Condemned He Stood: Celebrating the Glory of the Atonement by J.I. Packer and Mark Dever

Here’s the plan:

  1. You’re on your own to get the book.
  2. On first day of each month at 8pm, we will meet together (via video or telephone conference for those who can’t meet in person).
  3. Everyone is to bring at ...

How Many Tennis Balls Can You Juggle?

How Many Tennis Balls Can You Juggle?

We’ve are a volunteer driven church from the top down. Which means, we need people to step up and serve everywhere from cleaning windows, to playing in the band, to changing pooped diapers, to helping people use our complicated coffee machines. Every role requires a different kind of leader.

Strong leaders are always looking for ways to improve their strengths and their areas of influence. Less capable leaders settle or remain satisfied with what they can handle with very little effort ...

Prospectus #1: Vision

Prospectus #1: Vision

I just finished up a six-month church planting training course through the LAUNCH Network. It’s one thing to fill out an application and get accepted by a church planting group or network. It’s another thing for the leadership of that team to go out of it’s way to provide priceless resources, hands-on training, and hard-core personal development of every leader in their program. LAUNCH has been one of the most ridiculously amazing experiences of my life and I don’t ...

LIVE LOVE: Xtreme Summer 2011

LIVE LOVE: Xtreme Summer 2011

Well…probably against our better judgment, we did it. We put together the bootleg recordings of the worship music from Xtreme Summer 2011 and made them available. There is probably good reason why people don’t do this.

That being said, I want to give my two cents. Yes, it is difficult putting out something with your name on it that is less than perfect and yes, God deserves our absolute best and utmost excellence. But how great is it that we are ...

What Am I Doing?

What Am I Doing?

Before we got to camp this week we talked about recording ourselves playing. Why? Well, I wrote a new songs and I wanted to have record of it. The more we talked about it, the more we discussed the idea of putting together a CD at the end of the week with recordings of the music we’d be playing. I checked on the mechanical licenses needed and purchased them just in case. I got a couple spools of blank CDs ...

Daddy Son Trip

Daddy Son Trip

I’m not necessarily a fan of the beach. But I love my son. And he loves the beach. So I brought him along with me to Xtreme Summer 2011 to…well…work for me. He’s going to help me set up the product table and run it. As soon as I told him he was the boss in charge of the merch table, he was off and running making decisions and doing things his way.

He worked hard to display the candy ...

New Series: Who Am I…?

It’s that time again. Time for the start of a new series. But before I talk about it, I want to reflect a little on our short but abundantly blessed history in Canton.

We’ve come a long way since we started Oak Leaf Church Canton just a few months ago. In February, we went to 2 services. In April we almost tripled the size of our meeting space by tearing down the wall into the office next door. Being able to ...

New Series – Radical: Change Takes Sacrifice

We begin a new series this week at Oak Leaf Canton that will take us to Easter on April 24. I’m still figuring out the whole preparing messages and series stuff but I’m pretty excited about taking a look at some radical people from the Bible that made huge sacrifices in order to bring about God’s will. We’ll look at Abraham, Ezekiel, David, Hosea, the good Samaritan, and of course…Jesus.

Tell your friends. Bring your Bible. This one is going ...

New Series – New Thru 30

We want to take the Bible seriously. After discussing core foundational truths in our Doctrine series at the end of the year and wrapping up our spiritual disciplines series on 5 habits we can put into place that will lead to real peace, love, and happiness, the most logical step for us was to challenge everyone to read their Bible.

Elevation Church did this series a while back and we ...

I’m A Church Planter…sort of

Posted by:

Typically, church planters are given a vision and a call by God to a specific area for a specific reason with a specific mission. That is not my story. Some church planters go highly populated areas to start something they think they can do better than the those at the church they used to work for. That is not my story either.

I love my church. I love my pastor. My wife and I moved to Canton, ...
