The Healer Song
Posted by: willgoodwin  in Music, Thoughts on Christianity

Everybody and their mother is writing about how disappointed they are in the Australian who lied about having terminal cancer to add a little more emotional flavor to his song “Healer.” We did this song two weeks ago and we are doing it again this Sunday so I thought I would throw my half a cent into the mix.

The words of the song are still accurate. God can heal any affliction and nothing is impossible for Him.

I believe everyone has something they need God to heal including being a compulsive liar.

If the devil himself wrote the song, God could and probably would still use it to bring glory to His name.

My only question is this: when I do sing this song again (which I am going to do because I believe it is powerful and needs to be sung), will the people in the audience who know about the person who wrote it be able to get beyond it to worship God the way He deserves to be worshiped?

I deeply believe Christian leaders are and should be held to a higher standard. Not for the people who will judge but for those that need an authentic example. But I’m sure that every song we have every sung was written by an author who has a long list of faults and every worship leader that has ever existed has made poor decisions that reflect negatively on his/her character and integrity.

When you hear this song the next time, how will you respond?

Music Monday has become Muxtape Monday. I was never really good at writing reviews anyway.

this is the same one from two weeks ago but I’m repeating it for those who never took a listen.

So go listen

Want to offer suggestions for my next mix?

I’ve tripped over quite a few cables in my day but I wonder if this will actually work.

If it does, would you get one?

Music Monday: Muxtape

I realize I’m a little slow getting on this band wagon but it took me hearing one that made since to get behind it. And now I’m in love. Not only that, but I’ve discovered that by combing fluid to create a coverflow effect, you get a jaw dropping look into the excting world of mixtapes for the digital age.

Try mine…

…then tell me what you think.

Delirious?, You Will Be Missed!
        Posted by: willgoodwin  in Music

The band that helped usher in the modern worship movement is calling it quits come the end of 2009. Can we all join hands and sing a chorus of “I Could Sing of Your Love Forever” to pay our respects?

What is your favorite Delirious tune?

Music Monday: Aimee Mann

@#%&*! Smilers - Aimee Mann  (C-)

I know I’m the last person that should be critical of anyone else’s music and the only reason I even write this little blurbs is to challenge myself to go out and listen to stuff other people like and try to broaden my horizons. The new CD by Aimee Mann is down right boring. My brother says it is because I don’t know what good music is. That may be true, but I’m not going to waste my time trying to find the culture in her music and figure out her style does anything for anyone. I’ve liked some of her older stuff but nothing but the last song on this album did anything for me. Sorry all you Aimee Mann fans. I’m not joining your club.

Behind the Music: Psalty the Singing Songbook

Who else out there remembers this guy? My parents had me in every Psalty musical our church ever put on. I’ll be first in line to buy the new CD.

Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends - Coldplay (A+)

There are a lot of people who are not going to like this album but all I can hear is magic. Yes, as my pastor pointed out, there are not a bunch of “I can sing this with all my friends” songs. That is irrelevant. You will hear these songs everywhere. TV, commercials, movies, you name it. And you will not even realize how emotionally connected you are to whatever these songs are enhancing. I could go on and on about every track. Seriously, it is that good. Now, I don’t want to over hype it (though I’ve probably already done that) but in just the few minutes I’ve spent listening to it I can feel the musical gears in my head grinding away as I remember how moved and inspired I was listening to X&Y and thought there was no way they could top it. Go get it right now.

Music Monday: Death Cab for Cutie

Narrow Stairs - Death Cab For Cutie (B+)

This is not the typical kind of music you’d find me listening to but I asked for some for my birthday and my brother gave me this album and another one I’ll mention later on. To my surprise, I actually enjoyed the listen. Mind you, this will probably not stay in my CD player nor will I probably ever come back to it when I’m looking for something great to listen to on a rainy day. That being said, it has had several spins. However, considering Coldplay’s new album is next on my list, Death Cab’s days are numbered.
