I’ve been reading through the Bible with Ean but there are some parts we have to skip over either because they are a little over his head or not exactly the most entertaining passage. Then I came across this. Wish they would cover everything, but it is pretty impressive as is. Maybe they’ll keep adding more.

Do you have a favorite way to read the Bible to your little ones?

I received an email from a fellow creative arts pastor, Andy Goswick, asking some leadership questions and I thought i’d post my replies here for all to read. Hope my answers are good.

1. What is worship to you? it is a response to something with wholehearted affection, loyalty, and energy. anything that receives our attention, priority, and is recieving our worship.
2. In what ways can we worship or through what venues can we worship? by absolutely everything we do we offer worship to something prayerfully it be to the only One who deserves the worship.
3. How important is worship? (Why?) interminably important. it reveals our heart’s devotion and mind’s affection on what/who we place our trust and admiration.
4. As a worship leader, what is your primary role? eliminate distractions so everyone, including myself, has no obstacle and can worship freely.
5. What are the roles of the musicians, AV guys/gals, and any other parts of the team? to help the worship leader eliminate distractions and provide a reciprocal offering that is worth presenting to the Master Musician who blessed them with the gift and opportunity to use it.
6. How do you bring unity to your team? spiritual leadership (i hope - at least that is the goal). If your team is being effectively discipled, they will be unified.
7. What are some key components of your success? considering how much I still want/need/have to learn before I would even begin to consider myself “successful,” I can only contribute where I am and how I got hear to being obedient to God’s call on my life when I so often wanted to go in another direction.
8. What is your assessment of how your team is doing at any given time? real actual personal one on one conversations…and a lot of them.
9. What improvements, changes, or adjustments are you implementing to continue improvement of your team? personally, i’m reading more books on leadership and having conversations with others who are doing better what I should be doing to further understand to capacity of my responsibilities. I pass that along to those who are leaders on my team and encourage them to do the same to those whom they have influence over. I am in a constant state of searching for people who are looking for a way to serve and further training those who have shown passion and enthusiasm to take their responsibilities to the next level.
10. What are some of the challenges you’ve faced and how did you overcome them? (Or have you yet?) in trying to take care of my people I fool myself into thinking asking them to add something to their already busy plate is an unhealthy burden. This i am still working on as I look for more new people who are gifted in certain areas to take these weights not only from off my shoulders but also the shoulders of those on my team that are already carrying a pretty large load. It is always difficult to delegate to someone who is not going to do the work as well as you or someone else could. But 3, 6, 9, 12 months is going to come whether you want it to or not and you might as well train your people to do it or be stuck in the same place you are now when the year is over. Besides, it is possible somebody on your team who is capable of doing task A is overlooked because they are already doing task B, C, and D. But maybe the new team member can do B, C, or D so give them one of those tasks and ask the more capable person to take on A instead.

So what about you…how would you answer these questions?

There are 10,000 gumballs at the OLC office if any body is looking for a fix to there sweet tooth. And if you don’t understand why, you should have been at church. Does anybody read this who does not go to church? I’m actually curious. Does anybody read this anyway. My stats say I have zero readers and zero subscribers. Pretty sure that is not completely accurate but it might just be making fun of me. Anyway, great sunday and great message. I was really challenged to be a more Godly parent.  I’m so proud of the team that works for me. They do such an amazing job (*sniff sniff* I promised I wouldn’t cry).

Set list:

  • Every Breath You Take (Police)
  • You Lifted Me Out (Tomlin - i need to really broaden my list of worship songwriters)
  • You Are Here (Hillsong)
  • Jesus Saves (Tim Hughes -  more people need to start singing this song)

Don’t you love the fact I forget to post and then go back and post posts as if they were written when the post should have been written? I’m sure that habit makes real bloggers the web over cringe. Anyway, great start to the new series and i’m excited about the coming weeks. crazy awesome changes at the Leaf.

Setlist:

Holy Moment (superchick version of Matt Redman tune)
Sing to the King (Billy Foote)

My treo broke and after five years on sprint service, my contract ran out as if the stars were aligning. So, after a successful garage sell, canceling our tv service and home phone line, and the good people at sprint provided me with a new replacement that has found it’s way onto eBay, jamie and I had our date night at the AT&T store and walked out with our early Christmas present to each other - iPhones. In fact, this post comes courtesy of the worspress app I just downloaded. Yes, my good friends, I have drunk the kool-aid and have never been happier with a phone.

Oh, and my wife loves hers too and actually admitted she was wrong for making me wait this long. Man…God is good.

Can I get one of these for my house?

Better yet, can I get a large one to put on stage? Seriously, how much more intersting would Sunday sermons be with this tol to use for visual aids.

How else could something like this be used?

I read this today and came away with some interesting leadership thoughts.

  1. People flock to those who are real and passionate about what they believe (v. 1)
  2. Those in authority have authority so listen when they speak (v. 2)
  3. But authority does not equal leadership if there is no respect or exemplification (v. 3)
  4. Passing all the burden and responsibilities onto others will not keep your hands clean (v. 4)
  5. Anything done to build pride is done for the wrong reasons (v. 5)
  6. Glory does not come from associations (v. 6)
  7. Following all the rules can be more destructive than disobeying them (v. 7)
  8. There is always more to learn and that levels the playing field (v. 8)
  9. Pursue the higher calling of your daily work (v. 9)
  10. There is only one way that is best (v. 10)
  11. Never think you are above anyone else (v. 11)
  12. Humility is the path to glory (v. 12)

I love finding stuff like this because it shows how it only takes an idea and some determination to make something really beautiful and creative from relatively nothing new. Just so you know, the videos below are all done without CGI or massive post-production effects. They are real boats, real people, in real life environments…but everything looks like a glorified scale model.

Doesn’t it make you want to grab a camera and try to figure out how he did it?

I’ve been wanting to write some of my thoughts on all this political mess for sometime. I ran across this blog and could only read a couple of posts before my eyes were starting to stick the top of my head so I had to move on and hope the taste of the puke in my mouth could be combated with a fruit roll-up.

This election is so crappy I don’t even know where to begin. So instead of trying to monologue a bunch of bologna that isn’t going to change anybody’s mind, I’m just going to make a list of some of the thoughts i’ve had the past several weeks.

  1. McCain is a coward (UPDATE: not coward in the heroic soldier sense…only as a politician running for president)
  2. Obama is a puppet master (and probably a puppet himself)
  3. Sarah Palin was a brilliant choice for campaign salvation
  4. I don’t want a women president and i don’t care if that sounds chauvinistic
  5. I’d rather have a statesman than a politician to choose from this November…but i guess i’m not that blessed
  6. We’ve been weaning people off welfare for over a decade now down below 2,000,000 people. Whya re we wanting to jump-start it all over again by giving money to people who aren’t working to earn it?
  7. If the race was between the VP candidates, it would be much more interesting
  8. Joe Biden’s speech at his VP nomination was my favorite but I wonder how much of what he said they can/will actually do/be able to do
  9. Poor old Joe the Plumber. The guy might as well change the name of his business and his last name cause he’ll never be known as anything else.
  10. Wonder how Obama can be president but couldn’t be his own secret service agent because of his past associations
  11. What exactly is a maverick…yeah…not seeing the rebellion or independent thinking
  12. Will Biden continue to undercut his running mate with foot-in-the-mouth comments after the election…especially if they win?
  13. “Caribou Barbie” is one thing…”Sarah Palin is a c$^@” is probably over the line. Pretty sure anybody wearing a shirt at a protest rally that said “Obama is a n@%#$&” would probably be considered inappropriate.
  14. Anytime McCain says something intelligent, he looks like he is reading from notes he wrote listening to talk radio trying to get a good defensive strategy.
  15. Socialism? If the election goes the way the polls say it will, we can say hello to a fairness indoctrinated egalitarian society
  16. Presidential campaigns are good for SNL…it hasn’t been this good in a while
  17. Trying to come up with a list of good things the Bush admin has done right has helped me realize…that list is really short
  18. The Howard Stern “man on the street” interviews are very telling.
  19. How is it if McCain is so against earmarks he voted for a $700 billion bailout package that was full of them? And now that the bailout numbers are up to about $2 trillion, which candidate is going to stop the snowball?
  20. If Barack wins, he is either going to prove so many people wrong and do great things, or he is going to prove a whole lot of other people wrong and really mess up the America of our forfathers. Either way, 50% of this country is going to be happy…and that is the scariest part.

My wife asked a question on her blog today based on a quick conversation we had this morning before I left for work. Here is the shot version:

Should you sort the silverware as you put them in the dishwasher or as you take them out to put away?

Join the discusion over on her site. The comments alone are worth the trip over there.

Then come back over here and tell me i’m right.
