We’ve started using a database system called the City. Mainly because none of us in Canton particularly enjoyed using Fellowship 1 but also because it has amazing potential to help us create a whole new level of community between everyone who attends out church 7 days a week. Here are my favorite things about it:
- Kid’s check-in is beyond simple. It allows you to use anything in your wallet as a barcode so my BJ’s membership card now doubles as my kid’s check-in barcode.
- The group structure is brilliant and forces us to push people into groups and develop leaders to lead those groups.
- It is all your church communication in one place. Calendar, scheduling volunteers for events, making needs know, praying for one another, etc.
- The growth feature with scripture memory and Bible reading plans. My only complaint is I wish I could setup my own reading plan. I’m sure it’s possible. I just haven’t figure it out yet.
- Social media two way communication. Technically you could setup your account and never log on again but still receive all the important updates via email and keep other on the City in touch with your life via twitter and facebook updates.
Do you use the City? If so, what are your favorite features? If not, what do you use and why?
