Near and Afar

Posted by:

One of my biggest weaknesses is revealed when I have the blessed opportunity to be in the audience of a worship service with no responsibilities within the service itself. If the music is bad, I am overly critical and begin to wonder what I would do if I was up there leading or playing. If the music is great, I begin to take notes and see what I can incorporate into what I do when I lead or play. ...

In Bad Times Too

Posted by:

My seminary classes started yesterday with the most depressing news. One of my classmate..s wife was in a fatal car accident earlier that morning and his 18 month old daughter is in critical condition. On top of that, his wife was six months pregnant. What a burden Eric has with the loss of his wife and unborn child and the responsibility to stand strong in righteousness with so many emissaries watching and waiting for this man of faith to ...

Worship Now Before It’s Too Late

Posted by:

When I think about responding in worship, whether it be a loud song or quite meditation, I usually immediately follows some fantastic word or revelation from God. However, after reading Exodus 12:27, I realize faith in what God has promised He will do is reason enough to worship before He actually does what He said He will do.

Imagine what this might look like today in America. Christians are oppressed by the liberal leadership and post-modern philosophy and feel ...

Yet Another Call to Respond

Posted by:

Oprah is not on my favorites list, but every once in a while she has a show that is quite inspiring. The other day she featured a 5 year-old boy who was forced to watch his father stab and kill his mother before being stabbed several times himself and left for dead. Miraculously, the boy awoke, called 911, and police were able to apprehend the father as he returned to the house for who knows what reason. In front of ...

Time For A Reformation?

Posted by:

More and more I hear friends of mine who are a part of church-plants talking about the need for a modern reformation. Discussions include the character of Jesus as one who would hangout with sinners and the need for more resemblances of the early church in regards to community building and involvement. As I read more about Jesus the controversial politics in His messages and the practices of the early church, I am not so sure anybody today is ...

God is Obvious

Posted by:

Have you ever had one of those moments when you knew without a shadow of a doubt you were witnessing Gods absolute and obvious answer to a prayer? When Jamie and I began praying a few years ago for a new home to meet the needs and size of our every growing family, we never knew how obvious Gods answer would be. We prayed for very specific things like the finances to cover a down payment, the means to ...

An Introduction to a Study on Worship

Posted by:

One of the best and worst things about what I have been blessed to do this past year is visit and lead worship in a vast variety of churches (I say worst because I am rarely able to attend my home church). Each one is obviously uniquely different with its own philosophy and mission goals. However, across the board, the majority of the leadership and congregations I have been privileged t o serve in have a limited understanding of ...

Sick Child Needs Healing Father

Posted by:

Around 6:00 AM this morning, I hear my son yelling “Daddy!” from behind his bedroom door. Immediately, I put down what I am doing and go to check on him. I tell myself at the same time I speak aloud the half-awake reasoning through the two layers of luaun, “It’s just a bad dream, Ean. You can go back to bed.” Another plea for “daddy” and I am broken. The door feels weighted down as the body of my ...

Put Your Own Puzzle Together

Posted by:

Deuteronomy 12:31 ties into what I wrote yesterday but I’m going to address the same concern from a different point of view. God desires us to worship His way and that way may be different for everyone. I believe the trend of “following the leader” in churches today could have one of the most dangerous effects on Christianity around the world if it hasn’t already.

The first few months at college were difficult for me because I met people ...
