Prospectus #5: Beliefs Summary

There are some other items in our prospectus like our proposed budget and 5-year timeline, but I’m going to blog about that stuff separately. The last major piece of our plan involves our statement of faith. We worked hard to speak the truth without feeling like we were watering down any aspect of the Gospel. We also chose to stick with foundational doctrines and leave the often dividing issues on the table for discussion. Our beliefs are written in more detail on our website but here is a brief summary:

  1. The Bible is God’s inspired, authoritative, and infallible Word to mankind (scripture).
  2. There is one triune God where the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all independent, equal, and inseparable (trinity).
  3. Jesus is God in the flesh, fully God and fully human (person of Jesus).
  4. All mankind has been cursed and stained with the original sin of Adam (depravity).
  5. The consequence of the permanent sin-stain is eternal death and separation from God (wrath of God).
  6. God loves everyone and desires all people to be saved from an inevitable eternal punishment (grace & mercy).
  7. Jesus, a sinless and perfect example, was crucified on a cross as an atonement for mankind’s dilemma (justification).
  8. Jesus was resurrected and now sits at the right hand of the Father awaiting his triumphant return (second coming).
  9. Salvation from hell is only possible by God’s grace alone through our faith alone in Jesus Christ alone (salvation).
  10. Believers are responsible to prove their love for and faith in God by obeying His commandments (sanctification).

Finally, a definition for words I’ve always heard but never really understood. Thank you.
